Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Norén (aka Noomi Rapace) will play the main characters as Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander.

The production of the three movies began in the spring of 2008. Niels Arden Oplev, a Danish director, will direct the first movie “Men Who Hate Women”, which will première in all the Nordic countries during 2009.

Rasmus Heisterberg and Nikolaj Arcel are writing the script for the first and second movie. Formerly, they have worked together on the movies “King’s Game” and “The Island of Lost Souls” both directed by Nikolaj Arcel. The script to the third film will be written by Ulf Rybjerg.

The movies are produced by the company Yellow Bird and have a budget of approx. 80 million DKK. Yellow Bird has also produced the “Wallander” movies as well as the TV-drama “Lasermannen”.

I just finished reading the third book. Magnificent! To all of you who haven´t read it yet…..something good is waiting for you. Bet you´ll all be as thrilled as I am. What a great story teller Stieg Larsson was.

Btw, the film was really good also.

Loved the first 2 books, can’t wait to read the 3rd! Would love to watch the film too, but when will it be released in England? Please don’t let hollywood do a remake (they always mess it up!) just have english subtitles which would be much, much better!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was excellent. The Girl Who Played With Fire is spellbinding! I can’t wait for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. I only buy the paperback version so I’ll have a long wait – but I know that it will be worth it. I hope to see the films soon in England. Thank you Stieg. May you rest in peace.

Are they going to release the films in the US????? I can’t imagine that we would have to miss them. I’ve only been able to read “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” so far. The international buzz on the other two novels is exciting and I can’t wait to read them, too. Please don’t tell me that I’ll have to travel to Europe to see these films.

  • Keren – France says:

As a Bona Find bookworm, Steig Larsson’s Millenium books have to be, to date, the best book ever written. It’s a hard to put down, unpredictable roller-coaster-ride of a book.

Can’t wait to read the third volume!!!!

Words alone cannot express the sadness that Steig Larsson has died. It is indeed a great loss to our modern day literature.

I hope he knows how much we all love his books.

By the way, I’ve noticed his books aren’t dedicated to anyone. Was this due to his sudden death?

    - Keren – France,

Yesterday in cinema I saw the movie-trailer for the first part of the millenium-trilogy. I read in the Internet that the film should start in Germany on Oktober 1st 2009 but don’t know if it’s true. The film will be released on DVD in Sweden on August 26th 2009 – but just in swedish language and with only scandinavian subtitles. I regret that I didn’t took one of these languages in school…

J’ai commencé mon 3ème livre hier. Quelle trilogie !

The most amazingly gripping stories that I have read for many years and I am desperate to get hold of the third title. I shall be tracking the movie availability on every forum I can reach. Saddened by the fact that Lisbeth’s story lasts only as long as the number of pages on the final novel.

Bought the first two books for holiday reading but couldn’t put the first one down, so it was finished before leaving home – the second was even better so can’t wait for the final episode. I have been looking for something to equal Ian Rankin since the demise of Rebus – this exceeds even that excellent reading. So sad to lose characters due to the death of the author rather than through fictional tragedies.

No, just a rumour. But Hollywood is in the process of buying the rights, and many A

-listed directors and actors (Brad Pitt, George Clooney etc) have shown their interest. Nothing decided yet and I can only assume it will be official as soon as it’s settled.

What could I possibly say about the trilogy?

Just that we, the readers, are lucky to have such interesting books at our disposal to enjoy.

I have also watched the film of the first book and for the first time in my life, the film does not disappoint the reader, something that usually happens in the case first read the book and then watch the film.

Well done and most of all a thanks!

I saw the film (“The Girl with the dragon tattoo”)last weekend and I must admit is amazing!!! It is as good as the book was! and Salander… she looked exactly the way I had imagined her while reading… Marvellous – a masterpiece for me! I think I will see it again, and then again and again… :o)

I agree with you ben. All of this hate towards americans when really it is just hollywood doing something you dissagree with. So direct your hate else where. As for the remake I am in love with the swedish version and i adore Noomi for her protrale of Lisbeth but at the same time I am excited to be able to just watch the movie instead of having to read the movie. And voice overs blow so i refuse to allow my self to watch someones mouth moving and the words not follow. The only thing i wish is that they did was cut Rooney Maras hair to fit the part better or at least give her a better wing. I love the way Noomi had here hair for this. Plus Noomi pin pointed Lisbeths charater perfectly. She isnt too sexy but at the same time can be someone a girl/guy would love to date.

It takes a very foolish, narrow

-minded person to refer to an entire country of people as being “definitely idiots”. The world does not hate EVERYONE from this country unless the world, too, is filled with idiots. While that may be the case, know that we aren’t all at the drawing board when some salacious Hollywood (Hollowwood, a well

-deserved nickname) big wheels make their insidious decisions about what scripts they’ll accept or what scripts they want written. There are plenty poor decisions made in those boardrooms and we suffer here from them as well.I personally agree that the original movie was well

-acted, directed, scripted and delivered and that it should suffice for the next 50 years. That’s when a new version may be wisely considered to make it more contemporary by present day standards. It’s unfortunate when people decide on an entire country’s population based on the doings of a few. Yes, there are a lot of folks who indulge in moronic behavior, just like in your respective countries. In the name of peace and graciousness, I make a point to speak on the behavior of the individual or group they represent. That said, I not call every white person a racist nor should every American be disregarded because they are from or live in this country. Peaceful awakenings…

Americans are not idiots, I did see the swedish versions and loved them very much. Wish they didn’t take out so much, but they gave me the fix I needed after being saddend by finishing the books. I wish he could have done all ten! I’m an American and know that the American version won’t be as great as the Swedish versions but I am interested in seeing them none the less. Once again, another fix after being done reading the books. I hope the American versions will put back in the important parts that the Swedish versions removed.

I have now read all three books and can now say that having persevered with book 1, loved book 2 and now completed the final book that I loved them all. However, I felt at times that far far too much was going on the final book and my affection for Salander only increased. So, only her twin is left…. but sadly we will never know what Larsson planned for Salander after the trial!!

Wow! I’ve just yesterday finished reading the second book in the trilogy, and invariably when reading a book one gets a certain picture of what the characters look like and I don’t know how but you managed to select actors that correspond to that picture in my head! Great casting! And what can I say… loved the books. Couldn’t put them down. Almost got into trouble with my husband because all I wanted to do when we were on holiday was read first The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and as soon as I was finished I picked up the sequel which I finished yesterday. Now I can’t wait to read the last book. Is the movie coming to New Zealand?
