Two seriously injured people arrive at the emergency ward of the Sahlgrensa hospital in Gothenburg. One is the wanted murderer Lisbeth Salander who has taken a bullet to the head and needs immediate surgery, the other is Alexander Zalachenko, an older man who Lisbeth has attacked with an axe.

In this third novel in the Millennium trilogy, Lisbeth is planning her revenge against the men The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nestwho tried to kill her, and even more importantly, revenge against the government which nearly destroyed her life. But first she must escape from the intensive care unit and exculpate her name from the charges of murder that hangs over her head.

In order to succeed with the latter, Lisbeth will need the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist. He is writing an exposing article that will shake the Swedish government, the secret service and the whole country by its foundations. I can hardly wait. What a great trilogy, and when are the movies to be released?

    - Jasmine,

  • Rachel says:

Usually series have a little more closure in between books. Volume 2 has me absolutely on edge waiting for hornets nest. I almost didn’t grab dragon tattoo when I saw it, I am sooo glad that I did.

    - Rachel,

  • Kathy says:

Aaah! May 4th! That’s when Amazon says the last book will be released. I CAN’T WAIT THAT LOOOOOOOOONG!

I picked up Dragon Tattoo at an airport on a whim and I loved it. I immediately bought the second book hardback and sent the first to a friend. I was beyond disappointed to find the author was already dead, and there would be no more than these three books. What an amazing tale he spins, and I’m not usually a fan of murder mysteries. LOVE Lisbeth! As Hugh said, she’s my kind of girl!

    - Kathy,

    • Rachel, says:

Me too..When I started book 1 and was reading it in the metro, everybody was staring me like saying “the girl with the dragon tattoo???what the hell is that???”

The reason for why he hates the nickname is because it’s from a book by Astrid Lindgren. Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Bergson.

I just finished Fire last night and I can’t wait for Hornet’s Nest!!

I am so deeply saddened that he is not longer with to enjoy this success and also to write more!

I can’t believe how he makes you root for this girl! I love Lisbeth!

Question for the Swedish folks here … what’s the significance of the name ‘Kalle’? Blomkvist is called that as a nickname and hates it and as an American, I don’t understand.

    Hi,

I’m not an avid reader but I fell in love with the Millennium series. I’m on the 2nd book and I can’t stop reading. I feel so connected with the characters and I’m starting to wonder if I can ever feel this way about another book.

Is it just me or is the Millennium series like a drug? Can anyone recommend another similar mystery book? Thanks :)

I just checked with Barnes and Noble and they said the 3rd book will not be released here until May 2010, so I just ordered it on Amazon.co.uk and it will cost with shipping about $26.00 which I thought wasn’t bad at all for a hardcover! The UK release date is October 1, plus about a week for shipping, I can’t wait!

I kept walking by the fist book The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo” but it seemed to be calling my name. I read it and absolutely LOVED it!!!!! I passed it on to my mom and dad who also read quite a bit and Lisbeth Sanders has become one of our favorite character. We read The Girl that plays with fire in no time at all and can not wait to have the next one. This author was exceptional!!!!! -Or when the English versionof the movie would work just as well. Have a nlessed day!!!

  • Mary in Kansas City says:

I cannot wait to read this and to hear it as I have listened to the first two books also. I have enjoyed Simon Vance’s reading of Larsson’s exceptional stories. I am so sad he had to die so young. The books make this American want to come to Sweden and experience Stockholm as well as the outlying areas. Thank you Mr. Larsson.

    - Mary in Kansas City,

  • Jackie, Pittsburght, PA says:

What a fantastic character Lisbeth Salander is. I am really looking forward to reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. I just hope that there is a conclusion at the end of this book…..since this is the last book that Stieg Larsson finished before his untimely death.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to visit Sweden last year. We spent some time in Arboga with friends. It was wonderful to discover this trilogy (thank you, Rosemary!) and read about some of the places we visited and learn about so many we missed! Of course, the first two books are awesome!

  • lynne, west yorkshire says:

Stieg Larsson’s books are amazing. I have just read the 2nd of the trilogy and couldn’t put it down. The 1st was just as nail biting. What an amazing heroine he has created and the social issues are tackled in a direct and courageous manner, just as the fictional character of ‘Kalle’ Blomkvist sets out to seek out the truth. What a tragedy, that Larsson could not see his success. Incredible books! Have just pre-ordered the 3rd.

  • annamarie says:

RWB, COLORADO, and I like the same books. I could not wait to read THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, after THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, and now await the third book of the trilogy. Larsson left a great legacy in his work, but his life as a warrior for truth is what we will remember him for. Condolences to Eva. Stieg Larsson was a man who loved women.

mcdonald you are an idiot. Not everything has to be rated G in the world just because children exist. First of all these are clearly not marketed towards children. Second of all I don’t think a child could get through one of these. And the movies are rated R so if you take your kid to it that is your problem.

Fantastic book, just finished it all in one sitting, extremely tired but very happy and sad at the same time! There has to be a hollywood version at some stage although I hope they stay true to the books, an European film version would be better, hopefully we can get subtitled versions of those that have been done already. I thought there was a fourth that won’t be published, sure I read that somewhere….

Just finished reading the second book (kinda irritated that they don’t have the third in Canada yet) and honest to god a tear came to my eye when I realized the Larsson had passed away. This trilogy by FAR trumps Dan Brown?s novels and the loss of Larsson?s talents after such a brilliant display is equal to if not greater than the death of Heath Ledger after his mesmerizing role. Why after creating magnificence do these artists have to leave us? It?s almost like taking a small bite out of a delicious meal then having it stolen right out from under your nose. LIFE SUCKS!!

I just finished the “The Girl Who Played with Fire”, the second novel. These novels were recommended to me while on a week’s stay visiting a friend in Sweden. She purchased the first two novels and now I will be searching tomorrow for the third novel here in the United States. It’s great to have visited Sweden and experienced the Tunnelbanna, Arlanda Express, Central Station, etc., all mentioned in these novels. I could not put these books down.

Great, another case of the euros bashing American culture. Granted there is quite a lot of pablum being made in Hollywood but that is because of the insatiable appetite the world has for everything American. Deny it all you want but the truth is the truth. False you say? how are those jeans working for you? In the second movie Lisbeth wears a New York Yankees sweatshirt and baseball hat. The claim that 90% of Americans never leave the country is just blatantly untrue. Although we, the US, don’t have the opportunity to visit as many countries as our friends in Europe(there are only 3 in North America) according to World Tourism Organization Americans were second to Germany in international travel.

For those of you in North America who desparately wish to read the last book, Hornet’s Nest, audible.com has released the audiobook today! I just started the second book (listening to audiobook) and was already worrying and figuring out I would have to buy the third book on a UK site. But it has just been released on audible.com as an audiobook and has the same excellent narrator, Saul Rechlin, as the first two. Happy Listening,

I’m still struggling to read anything after days of finishing the 3rd book, because deep inside I’m just devastated that his mean father wont let the 4th book come to life.

It hurts soooo much 2 realize that the writer of such a master piece passed away, its fate, i noe, but…

    I love u Stieg. RIP.

Didn’t think this was as good as the other two, particularly the second. A bit off the wall towards the end and also predictable. Maybe Larsson needed to wrap it up.

      absolutely true. anyone remember “nikita” from the early nineties? noomi refers in an interview to this charakter in preperation of the role as to some sort of role model. i to this day adore this french classic and was very pleased that noomi felt the same way. now look what hollywood made out of “nikita” when the remake starring bridget fonda came out some years ago…a total anämic and hollow film without the dirt and rough edges of the original, they lost it completely. as to my part it´s quite clear what they wil make lisbeth look like… shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather….;
